MILLERSBURG, Ore. – A cloud of hazardous materials appeared over ATI Millersburg Operations around 8 p.m. Tuesday night and quickly dissipated within the hour. The materials came from the chemical operation area and Albany Fire’s hazmat team responded to the scene.

Albany Fire Lieutenant Greg Sipe, who's a part of Hazmat Team 5 that responded to the incident described what the situation was when firefighters arrived at the facility.

“So we were able to get there and decide that the leak itself was actually pretty well contained to the building itself and there wasn't really a direct threat anywhere beyond that spot,” Sipe said.

Upon the fire department’s arrival 12 people were evaluated for chemical exposure and 6 were sent to the local hospital.
