MANCHESTER, N.H. —

A bipartisan effort to stop the U.S. Postal Service from downsizing facilities has received approval from the House Appropriations Committee.

The bill, sponsored by New Hampshire Rep. Chris Pappas, responds to the Postal Service's plans to close the Manchester USPS Processing and Distribution Center.

If the center were closed, mail headed to New Hampshire would have to go through Boston or Connecticut.

Earlier this year, the Postal Service paused the changes after pushback from the public and politicians.
