FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – It can be argued that in both life and death, political commentator Charlie Kirk drew controversy, but his assassination has sparked a conversation on something much less partisan - freedom of speech.

On Wednesday, hours after his death, Assemblymember Alexandra Macedo spoke out against the violence, stating that it left her "absolutely devastated."

"I was absolutely devastated. This hits very close to home. He was just an extremely personable person," she said. "I felt like I knew him forever, but he was just so supportive of young people and inspiring."

Macedo points out that Kirk was shot while exercising his First Amendment rights at a university, a space historically known for promoting free discourse.
