Robert Karl Huber has been sentenced to 12 years in prison over the death of his partner Lindy Lucena in northern NSW.

Huber, 69, was convicted in the NSW Supreme Court in July of manslaughter.

It came after Ms Lucena was found dead in a courtyard behind a Salvation Army centre in Ballina in 2023.

After a judge-only trial, Justice Stephen Rothman found Huber inflicted "serious injuries" on Ms Lucena, which contributed to but did not cause her death.

A post-mortem examination found Ms Lucena was suffering coronary heart disease, which Justice Rothman found Huber could not have known about at the time of her death.

He found Huber not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter.
