In the wake of Australia National University (ANU) vice-chancellor Genevieve Bell's resignation, Chancellor Julie Bishop says there's no reason for her to also stand aside.
Addressing reporters this afternoon, Ms Bishop defended her decision to remain in the role until her contract ends in 2026, and said she had the backing of the ANU Council.
Professor Bell resigned on Thursday morning , prompting ANU Provost Rebekah Brown to be brought in as interim vice-chancellor.
Prior to Professor Bell's resignation, the ANU had been enduring a period of change as it attempted to recoup $250 million in savings through redundancies and changes to departments.
