100 Years Ago, 1925: Work on the improvement of Chester Pike is progressing rapidly. At the Darby end of the pike a steam shovel is slowly cutting away a high embankment of the east side of the pike, above the intersection of Parker Avenue in Collingdale. Tracks have been moved to the center of the street and several poles have been moved to the center of the roadway between the tracks.
75 Years Ago, 1950: Robert J. MacBride, prominent Republican leader, died at 4.30 a.m. today at his home, 415 MacDade Blvd., Collingdale. He was 56. Mr. MacBride, a former prothonotary and sheriff of Delaware County, had been ill about a year. Although he conducted a highly successful real estate and insurance business at his home, Mr. MacBride was best known for his career in politics. An independent, f
