An inquest has determined the cause of death of Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old Oasis fan who tragically fell to his death during a concert at Wembley Stadium. The incident occurred on August 2, as the concert was nearing its conclusion. Police reported that Mr Claydon sustained "injuries consistent with a fall" after plummeting from the upper tier of the stadium.
Mr Claydon, a landscape gardener from Bournemouth, was attending the concert with his brother Aaron, as well as his niece and nephew. Following the fall, he was transported to a medical centre in Wembley, where he was pronounced dead at 10.38pm.
During the inquest, which took place at Barnet Coroner’s Court, senior coroner Andrew Walker revealed that a post-mortem examination conducted on August 6 indicated the preliminary cause of death as "multiple bodily injuries". Detective Inspector Aimee-Leigh Sando stated that the police investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on reviewing CCTV footage and gathering statements from witnesses present at the time of the incident. She noted, "We are looking to complete statements from significant witnesses of those present during the fall. A substantial amount of personnel came forward after we put out the media request."
The inquest has been adjourned until a pre-inquest hearing scheduled for November 19. Clive Claydon, Lee's father, previously suggested that his son slipped on spilled beer, asserting that he was "not drunk" at the time of the fall. He remarked, "There was beer all over the floor, it was really slippery, and Lee just slipped and fell. I've been told that it was an accident waiting to happen. It was a horrible, horrible accident."
In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Lee's girlfriend Amanda expressed her grief, stating, "I don’t have many words right now… but it’s just not fair, and it’s not right that you’re not here with us. I will never stop loving you! My best friend, my soulmate, and the other half of our one brain."
A GoFundMe page set up by Aaron Claydon has raised over £30,000, far exceeding its initial target of £5,000. The funds will support Lee's immediate family. Aaron described his brother as a loving family man and a role model to his son Harry, stating, "Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon and we will miss him so very much."
