SOUTHBURY – Theater has been the heartbeat of Douglas Schlicher’s life for more than sixty years. This month, the veteran actor joins television star Diana Canova – star of TV’s Soap , for three performances of A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters at The Press Box Theater in Southbury, running September 19–21.
Schlicher’s love for the stage began in the early 1960s in the community theaters of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. After honing his craft locally, he was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, graduating in 1968. Within weeks, he found himself performing at the New York Shakespeare Festival in Central Park, immersing himself in the work of the Bard alongside a company of rising young actors.
The momentum continued with a season at the Lincoln Center Repertory
