Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and President Donald Trump on Wednesday, Sept. 10, announced that U.S. and Michigan flags will be lowered to half-staff on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025 .

Trump and Whitmer each issued a proclamation Wednesday to lower U.S. flags immediately after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot to death during an appearance at a Utah university.

Whitmer also previously had ordered Michigan and U.S. flags lowered for Patriot Day, to honor and remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
