CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - As the country mourns those lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, eastern Iowa groups are taking the chance to hold their own memorial events.

Of the thousands killed in the attacks, several were from Iowa. To remember all who were lost, there are several events being held today:

Freedom Flags for Victims, Iowa City:

The University of Iowa’s Young Americans for Freedom group are coming together to plan flags representing all the victims killed in 9/11 attacks. These will be on display in Hubbard Park.

Hope and Honor 9/11 5K, Cedar Falls:

A 5K will be held in Cedar Falls’ Paw Park. This is the event’s second year, hundreds of runners came out in 2024 honor those who were killed. The run starts at 8:15 a.m.
