Like many child care businesses, The Sunshine House Early Learning Academy was born out of necessity.

The founders, Dennis and Roseann Drew, struggled to find high-quality child care for their daughter, Lorelie, after moving to Greenwood in 1974. The couple decided to start an in-home child care business called Small World Preschool after finding existing options to be insufficient.

The Drews eventually renamed their business The Sunshine House and built their first child care center in Greenwood in 1975.

Fifty years later, The Sunshine House has become one of the largest child care providers in the country. The company operates more than 130 child care centers across South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, Texas and Tennessee.
