Detectives are investigating a fatal collision Wednesday when a woman was struck and killed by an SUV during the early morning hours in north Phoenix, police said.

The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. Sept. 10, and police officers responded to find the woman, who has not been identified, suffering from critical injuries near 15000 North Cave Creek Road.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel provided emergency care, but she did not survive, police said.

Detectives responded and said they learned the woman was crossing the road when she was hit. The man driving the SUV stayed at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication, police said.
