The Grand Canyon State opened a trade and investment office some 5,700 miles away in Tokyo, the Arizona Commerce Authority announced on Wednesday.

The commerce authority announced the office hopes to “increase economic collaboration and foreign direct investment opportunities” between the two locations, according to the announcement.

Arizona officials have been out in front when it comes to going after foreign investment.

In March, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and members of the Arizona Commerce Authority visited Taiwan and met with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te, Minister of Economic Affairs Jyh-Huei Kuo, Foreign Minister Dr. Lin Chia-Lung and TSMC global leaders including Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei at TSMC’s Taiwan headquarters, according to the Arizona Commerce Authority.
