LEXINGTON, S.C. - The second South Carolina trooper this week and the third in a month was hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Lexington County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Master Trooper Wayne H. LaBounty, a 40-year law enforcement veteran, is stable after a successful surgery this week.

Officials say he is in good spirits, but still has a long road to recovery.

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety asks that everyone keep him in their prayers.

LaBounty was hit by a vehicle early Tuesday in the area of Augusta Road.

He was airlifted to a hospital in “serious condition.”

This comes after a trooper was struck during a traffic stop early Sunday in Richland County.

Deputies said 35-year-old Alex Bookert was arrested and charged with driving under the influence
