Alabama football is trending toward facing Wisconsin’s backup quarterback Saturday, per multiple reports.

Badgers starting quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. is “unlikely to play” against Alabama, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported .

“He’ll travel with the team and plans to warm up, but he faces long odds to play this week,” Thamel tweeted Thursday. “He sprained his knee against Miami University in the opener and is week-to-week.”

CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz also reported the “current expectation is that backup QB Danny O’Neil will start for Wisconsin vs. Alabama.”

Edwards transferred from Maryland after he started 11 games for the Terrapins in 2024. Before he went out with an injury, Edwards completed 6 of 13 passes for 68 yards and no touchdowns. In his absence, O’Neil has completed 35 of 46 passe
