Virginia State University went into lockdown for much of the day Thursday due to a "potential threat."
VSU was one of several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) in the nation to receive a threat Thursday.
No injuries or incidents were reported in connection with the threat at VSU, which is in the Ettrick community of southern Chesterfield County, just across the Appomattox River from Petersburg.
VSU Police are leading the investigation, which includes coordinating with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Around 8:30 a.m., the university and VSU Police posted urgent alerts to their social media accounts announcing that the campus was closed.
