The shocking death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah college on Wednesday drew strong reactions across the country, including in Yuma County.

Local leaders and organizations shared their grief, condemned violence and called for Americans to come together.

Kirk, 31, was the founder of Turning Point USA and a well-known supporter of President Donald Trump. He was speaking at Utah Valley University around 12:10 p.m. during a stop on the “American Comeback Tour” when he was shot.

Police say the shot came from about 200 yards away and hit Kirk in the neck while he was answering a question about mass shootings. He died shortly after. His wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two young children were there when it happened.
