Syracuse, N.Y. ― A man accused of stabbing to death a 62-year-old who welcomed him into his home when he was homeless faces new charges.

Peter J. Boehm, 34, is accused of stabbing Kevin Works , 62, in the chest with a folding pocketknife on July 15 at the Seneca Garden Apartments at 103 Riverdale Dr., police said.

Boehm was originally charged with first-degree manslaughter. On Aug. 27, an indictment was filed charging Boehm with second-degree murder.

Boehm is now accused of intentionally, rather than recklessly, killing Works by stabbing him multiple times, according to the indictment filed in Onondaga County Court.

The maximum sentence for first-degree manslaughter is 25 years. The minimum sentence for second-degree murder is 15 years to life.
