Often referred to as a "Redeye Bass," the fish that frequents the Savannah River and its tributaries has been recognized as its own species and renamed the Bartram’s Bass, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources announced in a press release on Sept. 2.
Southeastern scientists have studied the bass for decades and the official designation as a new species was published earlier this month in the journal "Zootaxa."
