The unexpected departure of Duke University Health System's chief executive may affect separate major healthcare initiatives involving Cone Health and Novant Health Inc.
Kaiser Permanente announced Wednesday that Dr. Craig Albanese will become its president of Integrated Care and Coverage on Sept. 29.
In that role, Albanese will lead day-to-day operations for the integrated health care system that includes Kaiser affiliate Risant Health Inc., which owns and operates Cone.
All Kaiser-branded market presidents, hospital operations, continuum services, pharmacy, human resources, labor strategy and consumer experience will report directly to Albanese.
Kaiser Permanente is attempting to form a national network that combines insurance and health care.
