Long Beach’s immigrant justice organization, dubbed Organizing Rooted in Abolition, Liberation and Empowerment — known simply as Órale — has played a major role in supporting the city’s immigrant communities, especially in recent months.

Ongoing raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Southern California, including Long Beach, have caused immense fear within immigrant communities. That fear, Órale organizers say, has caused immigrant families to face a unique set of challenges, including food and housing insecurity.

This year, the nonprofit organization is doing something different for its Long Beach Gives campaign. Rather than using donations to fund their programs and services, Órale will use every dollar donated to its campaign to fund direct financial assista
