WALKER, MI – Kent County is planning to buy a residential property in Walker to expand Millennium Park.

The Kent County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a 0.85-acre residential parcel at 1184 Maynard Ave. SW for $550,000 on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The property acquisition will allow for the expansion of Millennium Park, providing a key connection between existing park properties on the Maynard Avenue corridor, said Parks Director Ben Swayze.

To pay for the property acquisition, the county has allocated $400,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding and a $200,000 commitment from the Kent County Parks Foundation.

Closing will take place Sept. 15, according to the purchase agreement.
