GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday marks 24 years since the largest terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Nearly 3,000 people were killed, but their memory will not be forgotten.

Scouting America’s Michigan Crossroads Council helped organize Scout Salutes all over the state to make sure of that.

In Grand Rapids, sunrise marked the start of a full-day salute — wave after wave of Scouts, first responders and other community members lining up to pay tribute. The American flag at the plaza of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum was under constant salute, with groups standing in salute for three minutes at a time.

The attendees honored the lives lost nearly a quarter century ago and paid respect to first responders past and present.
