LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview man was sentenced 40 years in prison for the 2023 murder of another man and starting a house fire in an attempt to cover up the death.

Donald Miller Jr., 23, of Longview, pleaded guilty on Thursday to both murder and arson in connection with the June 7, 2023 death of Ronnie Moody, 66, of Longview. Following his pleas, he was sentenced to 40 years for the murder and 20 years for the arson conviction.

Longview firefighters found Moody's body inside the vacant building during their response to the fire in the 100 block of East Avalon Ave. When firefighters moved the body, they noticed a trail of blood and trauma to the back of his head, an arrest affidavit read.
