VAN BUREN, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Fort Smith man, who admitted to killing his husband with two Phillips-head screwdrivers after an argument over drugs, has pleaded not guilty, according to court documents.

Gregory Steven Whitt Jr., 39, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 21, in connection with first-degree murder, Crawford County Detention Center records show.

Whitt's public defender entered a not guilty plea on his behalf on Sept. 10. No future court dates have been announced as of Sept. 11.

A probable cause affidavit from Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Holmes said on Aug. 21, in a wooded area of southeast Van Buren near Westville, where the couple had been camping, Gregory Whitt Jr. allegedly stabbed his husband, Kevin (Pennington) Whitt, multiple times with two Phillips screwdriver
