CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A former Republican representative from North Carolina was arrested in Florida after failing to appear in court for a traffic citation.
Madison Cawthorn, who served in the House for two years, was taken into custody on Wednesday in Cape Coral. Lee County deputies arrested Cawthorn after he missed an 8:30 a.m. court hearing in Collier County.
The hearing was for a citation he got on Aug. 19 from Naples police when he was driving without a license, according to court records. Voter registration records show he's been living in Cape Coral.
He was booked into the Lee County jail at 2:47 p.m. and released on a $2,000 bond just over an hour later.
This comes just a week after Axios reported that Cawthron is preparing to run for Florida's 19th Congressional District seat. I
