Von Miller is one of the greatest pass-rushers in NFL history.
He has two Super Bowl rings, one with the Denver Broncos (where he also captured the Super Bowl 50 MVP award) and the other with the Los Angeles Rams. He's 16th all-time in sacks with 129.5 and could feasibly break the top 10 with at least one more competent season of production. Per Over The Cap, Miller has also made over $194 million during his NFL career.
At the age of 36, Miller has more or less accomplished everything you'd want from a superstar NFL defender's career. He could've retired. Instead, he hopped on board the rising Washington Commanders' train, which remains a curious decision given the context of where Miller is as a pro football player at this late stage of his football life.
So ... why did Miller choose to sign with the Commanders?
According to Commanders Wire, it had everything to do with Jayden Daniels, the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year:
"Jayden Daniels is a really good quarterback," opened Miller. He didn't waste any time. Miller went straight to the heart of the matter. He plays defense, knows how important it is; yet, Miller knows quarterback is the most important position in the NFL. Miller expressed he had played with really good quarterbacks like Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Josh Allen, and that he feels Daniels is going to be considered as good as those guys one day.
You know, I completely get it. As good as Miller has been throughout his career, he knows there's nothing like playing with a quarterback who can put his team on his back. So far, Daniels appears to be exactly that kind of signal-caller. Understandably, Miller couldn't wait to be part of Daniels' journey in Washington.
