United States and North Carolina flags will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Sept. 11, for two reasons.

U.S. flags were set to be flown at half-staff across the country at all governmental buildings today, Sept. 11, in observance of Patriot Day. Now, flags are to remain lowered across the nation for several days due to the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk , according to a White House proclamation.

Governor Josh Stein made a North Carolina-specific statement Sept. 10 on the lowering of flags for Patriot Day. Additionally, President Donald Trump made a countrywide proclamation declaring that U.S. flags should be lowered for an additional three days in the aftermath of the fatal Utah shooting of Kirk.
