Americans of various backgrounds were impacted by the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk Sept. 10, including New Jersey chapters of Turning Point USA, the organization co-founded by Kirk.

"When I turned on the news yesterday I prayed nonstop until I heard the words I dreaded," Jenna Anevski, campus coordinator and past president of Turning Point's Montclair State University chapter, told NorthJersey.com Sept. 11. "I remember forgetting how to breathe. My phone was blowing up and like so many others I felt sick to my stomach."

Kirk, who was also the president of Turning Point, was shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University and later pronounced dead. The search for the killer was ongoing as of 2 p.m. Sept. 11.
