Two steel beams from the wreckage of the World Trade Center in New York City stand outside police headquarters in Anne Arundel County.

That’s where a 9/11 memorial ceremony was held Thursday morning. It marked 24 years since the terrorist attacks.

The memorial began with the presentation of colors by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Police Honor Guard.

“Today our hearts and our prayers remain with those who are still seeking peace,” Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Trisha Wolford said. “With those still fighting the good fight and with every family who has lost a loved one 24 years ago today.”

Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman said that the memorial was dedicated to all public safety personnel who responded on that tragic day.
