EAST LIVERPOOL Crews with the U.S. Coast Guard are in East Liverpool investigating an overturned barge on the Ohio River.
A spokesperson for the Coast Guard told 21 News the barge overturned sometime in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 11. The incident happened on the Ohio River in East Liverpool near Newell, West Virginia.
The Coast Guard tells us no one is injured and no one was on board at the time of the incident.
The Coast Guard tells us there is very minor pollution in the river, but that pollution does not appear to directly be caused by the barge overturning. Crews have booms out and are trying to determine what happened.
The barge is not blocking the navigation channel.
