Twenty four years after the the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Streetsboro residents and firefighters gathered at the city's fire station to pay tribute to those who died that day.
The department's annual ceremony took place near a section of a steel beam from the World Trade Center. It was the 13th year the city has hosted the Remembrance Ceremony.
In Ravenna, the city's fire department also hosted a tribute ceremony.
As the Streetsboro Fire Department tolled bells to honor fallen safety forces, Lt. Gabe Tabeling talked about how first responders "ran toward danger, not away from it" and how "strangers became friends."
Bishop Michael Rice of Encounter Church said Sept. 11 was "a day of shock and sorrow and a day that tested the nation's heart."
