COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) says crews will begin work in October to replace the bridge on US 601 (McCords Ferry Road) over US 378 (Garners Ferry Road).

The bridge needs to be replaced because "it does not meet modern design standards and needs to be replaced," according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT).

October is when drivers can expect to see traffic pattern adjustments, but drivers won’t have to take a long detour. SCDOT says side ramps next to the bridge will let people keep going in the same direction.

Drivers who use the bridge say safety is their main concern.
