CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles is breaking her silence about her primary win and the stabbing death of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska that happened on the light rail in August. Lyles sat down with WBTV to talk about safety improvements that are on the way for the Blue Line, the criticism Charlotte leaders are now facing, and to admit that she wished that she would have publicly addressed the community about what has been going on and about her victory on Tuesday much sooner. She tells WBTV there was a lesson learned, and she will work on transparency and communication.

“I admit that,” Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said. “You know, the good thing about it is being able to be in a city where you can say I made a mistake and people say that’s ok.”
