CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Cranston City Council will vote Thursday evening to fill the citywide seat left vacant by former Council President Jessica Marino.
The Cranston Democratic City Committee announced Monday that it's nominated Emilia Vaziri to be appointed to the seat. (Per the city charter, the nominee must be of the same party as the previous officeholder.)
Marino stepped down last month after being scrutinized for her romantic relationship with the council's attorney, Stephen Angell, who has also resigned.
"Jessica Marino was a phenomenal councilwoman who raised the bar for leadership in Cranston," Maria Bucci, chairwoman of the Cranston Democrats, said in a statement Monday. "Her dedication, intellect, and tireless service made an indelible mark on our city. We are so gratef
