BOSTON, Mass. (WPRI) — Elected leaders in Rhode Island and Massachusetts are pushing to make sure students learn about what happened on Sept. 11, 2001.
Most young people who are in school today weren't born yet when the terror attacks took place.
Patrick Bavis lost his brother Mark on 9/11 and spoke to students in Massachusetts on Thursday about what happened 24 years ago.
"Every student in Massachusetts should understand the impact of 9/11, so something like this never happens to other families," Bavis said. "Only 14 states mandate education related to 9/11, and Massachusetts, a state where the attacks originated, is not one of them."
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is directing the state's education leadership to ensure 9/11 is part of school curriculum.
"I think many are alread
