LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Texas man has been found guilty as charged of second-degree murder in a Calcasieu Parish courtroom today.

On Sept. 23, 2022, 50-year-old Eskinder Mekuria of Humble, Texas, shot and killed 46-year-old Hushiar Faris Sumo on L’Auberge Boulevard.

The day of the shooting, Mekuria and Sumo had met each other at the Golden Nugget Casino, according to prosecutors. The two then left in Sumo’s car.

As Sumo was driving, Mekuria shot and killed him, then fled the scene and state, the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s office said.

On Oct. 13, 2022, detectives and SWAT team members from both Lake Charles and Houston arrested Mekuria on Westheimer Road in Houston.
