FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Genealogy Center at the Allen County Public Library has become a destination for people across the world and a valuable resource for anyone trying to fill out their family tree or do other research.

The brainchild of former library director Fred Reynolds, the center opened in 1961. Today, it’s the second-largest genealogy collection in the country — home to 1.2 million physical items along with extensive online resources.

“We have access to 29 databases that we pay for, so our patrons don’t have to,” said ACPL Genealogy Services Manager Allison Singleton. “On top of that, we also are a FamilySearch affiliate, which means there’s locked records on their website that people have access to here. We’re also digitizing materials on our own.“
