Vera Bradley Inc. on Thursday reported a second fiscal quarter loss of $4.7 million, or 17 cents per diluted common share, a $10.4 million swing from last year's second-quarter earnings of $5.7 million, or 19 cents a share.
The Fort Wayne-based maker of women's handbags, luggage and accessories also reported $71 million in sales, a 25% decline from the $94 million posted for the same period a year ago.
Ian Bickley, the company's executive chairman, said the 13-week period ended Aug. 2 showed same-store sales improvement over the company's first fiscal quarter.
