DermaRite Industries has expanded its hand soap recall from July to now include 32 personal care products that could be contaminated with bacteria called Burkholderia cepacia complex.
The expanded recall is out of an abundance of caution, the New Jersey-based company said. DermaRite added that its wound care and nutritional products are not part of the voluntary recall.
DermaRite products are often used in hospitals and nursing homes but are also sold by retailers.
The bacteria could cause serious and even life-threatening infections in immunosuppressed people or those tending to them, the company said in its updated recall notice in late August. Healthy people with minor skin lesions also could develop infections from the bacteria.
