GRAND FORKS — The Federalist Society of the University of North Dakota’s School of Law and the university’s Turning Point USA chapter are hosting a vigil Friday, Sept. 12, at Sertoma Park in memory of conservative activist and influencer Charlie Kirk.

The president of the Federalist Society said Kirk lost his life while standing up for his principles, and that his death underscores the importance of protecting free speech and open debate on college campuses.

"His legacy is going to be that people are not going to be afraid to stand up and speak on what they believe in and that we shouldn’t be scared to have opposing views," said Naomi Bromke, president of UND’s Federalist Society.

Kirk was scheduled to speak at UND in October.

The vigil begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
