BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — 24 years after 9/11 , a tragic day is now inspiring a movement of service.

A foundation called 9/11 Day started in 2002 to honor the day by filling it with as many good deeds as possible.

In Bridgeport , hundreds of volunteers came together to fight hunger, packing thousands of meals for Connecticut families.

Over 20 companies and organizations showed up to Total Mortgage Arena Thursday morning to pack meals.

A woman with a special connection to the foundation joined the large crowd.

"This will be my 24th year volunteering with 9/11 Day. It's actually the first time I'm doing it in Connecticut. In the past we were in New York City," Ellen Bowen said.
