RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -As iconic as pictures from 911 are, it’s interesting to note after 24 years there are generations of people who were not born when the attack on America occurred.David Sousa is the president of the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza in Sparks.
He says that’s why 911 ceremonies are so important.
He organized such an event at the Memorial Plaza on September 11, 2025.
He read the moments that led up to the collapse of the twin towers, the plane crash into the Pentagon and the fate of United Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
He noted the 343 first responders who lost their lives.
It’s one poignant reason Veteran Cary DeMars attended the event.
“A lot of law enforcement are Veterans and their family members,’ says DeMars. “So, I think we are all a family … especially today.”Sousa
