A strike that has delayed the start of the school year in the Evergreen Public Schools is coming to an end. Union leaders and district officials reached a tentative agreement late Wednesday night, and union members approved the new contract in a ratification vote Thursday.
Classes will begin Friday, EPS said in a statement. The school year was supposed to begin Aug. 26, but instead, certain school employees have spent the last several weeks on the picket lines demanding higher pay, more staffing stability and workplace improvements they say are necessary to keep students safe.
