Is Ohio’s new mandatory driver’s education law a critical safety measure or an expensive barrier that could backfire spectacularly?
Thursday on the Today in Ohio podcast , host Leila Atassi blasted the law as costly classroom instruction for all drivers under 21 that will not be effective.
Starting Sept. 30th, all Ohioans between 18 and 21 will be required to complete the same driver training that 16-17 year olds currently undergo : 24 classroom hours, 8 hours with an instructor, and 50 supervised practice hours. The law aims to close what Governor Mike DeWine sees as a dangerous gap, based on data showing 18-19 year olds have high crash rates.
Atassi threw the flag on DeWine’s claims.
