MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - Dozens of people gathered outside the Rutherford County Courthouse Thursday night to oppose a newly signed deal between the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“I’ve seen the fear in our communities, specifically in our Latino, Hispanic communities,” said protester Anakarina Lorenzana DeWitt. “People are afraid to go out, they’re afraid to leave their homes, they’re afraid to take their children to school and go to work, they’re afraid to contact the police if they need any help. I’m just really concerned that this is doing more harm than help to our community.”
