HAMPTON, Va. — All non-essential activity was ground to a halt at Hampton University on Thursday as the school was among several Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the FBI said, that were targets of hoax threat calls.

On Thursday night, the university's former student government president spoke out about the threats.

Shavonne Hines-Foster recently graduated from Hampton University, but during her time as the student government president, she said, they dealt with potential threats like Thursday's a handful of times.

She said, with heightened security concerns at colleges across America, it is leaving current students on edge.

Hines-Foster said she got the social media notification, and it put her on edge.

“I just had a kind of sense of nervousness,” she said.
