MILLERSTOWN — Jim Nace was lying on the track on the front stretch of Williams Grove Speedway following a horrific flip after an experimental spring-loaded right rear radius rod broke the bird cage, causing Nace’s sprint car to catch the wall around the flagstand on the white flag lap of a heat race during the 1986 season.

Mechanic Jimmy Russell rushed to the scene to check on Jim.
