MUSCATINE, Iowa. (KWQC) - Hundreds came together to remember the lives lost in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, in the shadow of World War II history, Thursday evening.

“We do this to remember who we are as a nation,” Muscatine Mayor Brad Bark said. “The freedom we have was not free, people gave up their lives to do this. And today specifically about remembering the individuals that sacrificed their lives for our freedom today.”

Along with remembering those lost on Sept. 11, the community celebrated veterans and branches of the armed forces during a ceremony.

“That day was a day that gives you goose bumps when you watched what was happening on TV, I was at work,” Muscatine resident Erika Cox said. “It got very quiet and somber and just not knowing what was going on.”
