CLEVELAND, Ohio— When Grammy-winning saxophonist Joe Lovano takes the stage at Bop Stop on Sunday, Sept. 21, it won’t just be another hometown gig.
It will be a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Tony “Big T” Lovano and serve as a chance to give back to the community that helped shape him.
“It’s a celebration of my dad in his centennial year,” Lovano told Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
“There’s gonna be a whole host of Cleveland All-Stars contributing their beautiful sounds and spirits that day. Join me and my family in an amazing celebration to establish a scholarship fund in his name.”
Lovano, who grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Euclid High School, has long been a towering figure in the world of jazz. But this performance is different.
